A tribute to firefighters

A tribute to firefighters

This piece of work is a tribute to honor the firefighters, the important emergency service personnel. Firefighters are selfless beings who risk their lives to safeguard the public. Firefighters go through strenuous physical examination before they join the service. There are different levels of training: basic, intermediate and EMT paramedics. EMT's are emergency medical technicians who are well trained to give emergency treatments to victims. Firefighters' main work is to fight fires in emergency situations, to detect and control the fires caused by hazardous materials and to evacuate people from collapsed or caved in structures. They also must shut off gas and electricity for safety.  Firefighters wear heavy clothing for their safety and they wear breathing apparatus to escape from inhaling toxic smoke. Even though these apparatus are used heedlessly, still some firefighters are said to die from asbestosis diseases. Most of the firefighters also undergo post-traumatic stress disorder, leading to insomnia, nightmares and panic attacks. The gruesome experience during the rescue operations have long-lasting impacts on them. The personal alert safety system helps in identifying and rescuing firefighters who get struck up or injured during rescue operations. In spite of all the technological benefits, still many firefighters lose their lives in this process. Though firefighters are there to save us, let us know about our responsibility to safeguard ourselves and our community. Public must be given awareness programs on emergency situations. Even children must be taught about emergency numbers. People must be taught to stay calm and use escape routes. They must be instructed not to use elevators during an emergency. They should be given proper instructions to use fire extinguishers and first aid. In spite of all the precautions, calamities are inevitable and emergency services risk their lives to safeguard the public. A heartfelt salute to firefighters for their incredible service.
